Antonio Tajani and Guy Verhofstadt lead EP negotiator on Brexit
PRESIDENT of the European Parliament Antonio Tajani, who has flown to London, will meet Theresa May on April 20.
Mr Tajani will discuss the European Parliament’s position on Brexit; a resolution defining its guidelines for the negotiation passed with an overwhelming majority during the last session in Strasbourg in April.
Whilst the decision to hold a snap election in the United Kingdom may have come as something of a surprise to the former Italian politician, the need to discuss Brexit and the European Parliament’s ‘rules of engagement’ are important.
He must proceed on the assumption that the current government will be re-elected and if not will pass on minutes of the discussions in the event that a new government is victorious in the June 8 election.
