HOTELS in Almuñécar and La Herradura reached 90% occupancy over this year’s Semana Santa.
The town’s council have attributed the high numbers to unseasonably good weather that has drawn crowds to the town, filling beaches and hotels alike.
Also responsible for high visitor levels are special tourist events put on by the town hall, as well as Holy Week displays and monuments. Almuñécar has also been named a town of Tourist Interest in Andalucia, due to its extensive programme of Easter processions, attracting tourists from around Spain and further afield.
Coinciding with the religious festivities, Hotel Playacalida has reopened its doors, with an occupancy of 80% and 120 staff members.
