Guardia Civil
LUCKY ESCAPE: the victim is lucky to be alive after the beating

A 69-YEAR-OLD British man is being held in custody for allegedly beating his ex-wife in Aguilas, Murcia.

According to the Guardia Civil, the woman called emergency services to report the assault and when officers arrived on the scene, they found a man and a woman both drenched in blood.

The victim told officers that her ex-husband had attacked her with an iron bar. She tried to defend herself against the blows, but was hit in the head, face, side and legs.

It wasn’t until the she started to speak to him, attempting to calm him down, that he stopped beating her.

For the next two hours he remained in the house, allegedly controlling his ex-wife´s movements to ensure that she didn’t call emergency services.

Convinced that his victim was not going to alert the police, the detainee left the house. It was at this point that the woman seized the opportunity and called for help.

Soon after, the man returned to pick up the crowbar he had allegedly used in the attack, at which time two Guardia Civil patrols and an ambulance arrived.

In light of the woman’s serious injuries, the Brit was arrested for attempted murder. Officers seized the crowbar, as well as a pair of bloody gloves found in the boot of his car.

The victim was taken to Rafael Mendez de Lorca Hospital, where she was immediately transferred to the University Hospital in Murcia for hospitalisation. She is being treated for multiple fractures to the skull and cheekbone.
