Alicante council
THREE people have been arrested in Alicante for stealing from the elderly by using, among other tactics, the promise of ‘sexual favours’ to lure their victims.
The trio, a man and two women, would allegedly select their victims and await for them to be alone before robbing them.
Referred to in Spain as ‘affectionate robberies,’ the two women would go as far as kissing their intended victims and promising to perform sexual acts in order to gain trust before pickpocketing or lifting jewellery.
There were also reports of the alleged robbers operating in graveyards, targeting in one case a grieving widower as he wept over the grave of his wife. The elderly man was assaulted and robbed when he rejected their advances.
The group face five charges of violent robbery as well as 14 charges of theft and one charge of being part of a criminal organisation.
