Car that drove into the railings of the Palace of Westminster
A POLICEMAN is among four dead and there are multiple people with ‘catastrophic injuries’ after the terror incidents in Westminster, London today, according to sources.
Witnesses described how a car ploughed into people on the pavement of Westminster Bridge, before crashing into railings outside the Houses of Parliament and the driver fatally stabbed a police officer.
The assailant was then shot by armed officers in the grounds of the Palace of Westminster.
Parliament business was suspended and the building was put into lock down.
Prime Minister Theresa May’s protection officers took her from the chamber and her away from the building.
Before suspending the Commons for the day leader David Lidington told MPs: “What I am able to say to the House is there has been a serious incident within the estate.
“It seems that a police officer has been stabbed, that the alleged assailant was shot by armed police.
“There are also reports of further violent incidents in the vicinity of the Palace of Westminster but I hope colleagues on all sides will appreciate that it’d be wrong of me to go into further details until we have confirmation from the police and from the House security authorities about what is going on.”
“In the current circumstances it would not be right to continue with today’s business.”
Westminster underground station has been closed at the request of the police.
Police say attacks are being treated as “terrorist incident until we know otherwise”.
