Dogs to have their DNA registered before they can use canine parks in Malaga

The database will help fine owners who dont pick up their dogs droppings.

MALAGA Council are in the final stages of approving an initiative that will force dog owners to register their dogs DNA before being allowed to use canine parks throughout the province.

As well as being used to track down owners who don’t collect their pet’s droppings, the database aims to help find dogs that go missing. This also means owners who abandon their dogs on the street will be found and fined.

The programme, due to be rolled out in April, will allow pets registered on the system to use any public space unless there is a specific council notice saying otherwise.

Fines for not picking up dog droppings will cost up to €500, the exact sanctions for abandoning pets have not yet been announced.
