So many what ifs

UNM 2016 ATTENDEES: Join us at the United Nationalities of Marbella Summit in 2017

WHAT if we took a little more pride in the city we call home? What if we complained a little less and did a little more?

What if we opened our homes to Spanish exchange students, but right here in Marbella?  Until quite recently English wasn’t taught in the public schools making it hard for anyone in their mid-twenties upwards to get a job in their own city.

This local “international” exchange could be a great way to put a positive spin on our overwhelming presence which depletes the locals chances of work, and an ideal way of helping young local Spanish students experience the “foreign” life style of our local English population, eat our foods and help them learn and practice English but without having to leave home or travel far!!   And what better way to promote our further integration?

What if we were to organise the many talented artists in our city to help turn our industrial estates into colourful living tapestries?  An added tourist attraction and a simple way to promote the artists but also to help increase business opportunities, further integration of our community and certainly be something to talk about in the international press, again further promoting Marbella worldwide.

What if we put our heads together to address the fact that our young teens need to have places to “hang out” after school and sports?  Something to keep in mind if we’d prefer them not to succumb to the party promotion experience that is and be smoking shishas in bars in Puerto Banus at 13 years old, as is the case at the moment for many.

What if we were to adopt a recycling system as done in Colombia with the Ecobot?  All plastic deposits are put in special containers around the city and give discount vouchers for cinemas, restaurants and other local activities; a real incentive to recycle.

What if you have an idea that could be of interest to our community and would like to get more people involved and put it into action?

What if you join us at our second United Nationalities of Marbella Summit on April 25 2017and share your ideas, help create the action groups to put the best ideas into practice and then have a network lunch with some of the most privileged brains in the world who live right here in Marbella?

Our first get together last year was a great success and many ideas brought up have been actioned, including more organic markets, allotments, and the cherry on the top being Linea Directa insurance company responding to our request by creating a new policy for expats which covers a night-time taxi at no charge, up to four times a month to take us home so we don’t have to drink and drive!

UNM2017 is our chance to get together; it’s open to all ages and is being held again at Laude International School in San Pedro – so we all fit!  It’s 100 per cent interactive and proactive and the entrance is free.

All you have to do is visit our website, fill in the form to sign up and we’ll see you there!   We are and can be #BetterTogether
