VELEZ-MALAGA will illuminate the Teatro del Carmen in purple to celebrate International Women’s Day.
The councillor for Social Welfare and Equality, Zoila Martin, said this will be done to commemorate the struggle for gender equality, explaining, “we want to make it clear to citizens that there are still many obstacles to achieving effective equality, there is still much to do to assert our rights and we must continue in that struggle.”
Many of Velez-Malaga’s schools have also organised activities to commemorate the day, including displaying the movement’s purple ribbon logo and a school trip to watch the film Hidden Figures, about the first black women employed by NASA.
