IN recognition of International Women’s Day, the director general of the Guardia Civil, José Manuel Holgado inaugurated on March 7, the fourth conference on European vision of equality in the field of policing.
The conference was attended by the director of the Institute of Women and Equal Opportunities, Lucia del Carmen Cerover; the government delegate for gender violence, María José Ordóñez; the director of IUISI, Fanny Castro-Rial; the deputy director general for personnel, Lieutenant General José Luis Ulla. Also attending were equality units of several ministries, as well as representatives of other police bodies.
The director general emphasised that, on the eve of the celebration of International Women’s Day, it was a good opportunity to reflect on the progress made, a moment to share the work done and also to exchange opinions and experiences.
“Equality” he said “is the situation in which women and men have equal rights and opportunities and participate equally in all spheres of public and private life, free to develop their capacities and make decisions.”
It was also stressed that in recent years the Guardia Civil had strengthened its commitment to equal opportunities and continues to work on the design and promotion of effective strategies in this area.
