Sunday shopping given the go ahead in Alicante

EL CORTE INGLES: Pledged to employ more staff and to ensure workers’ rights.

ALICANTE’S shopping centres are permitted to open on Sundays and public holidays.

The court has allowed the provisional opening for the shopping centres of Gran Via, Plaza Mar 2 and Puerta de Alicante. This comes despite the appeal against the opening by the city claiming the shopping centres were not in the Tourist Relief Zone (ZGAT).

However, the court has agreed with the Commercial Council of Alicante, which allowed the opening of the shops in the environment of Avenida Maisonnave. The move came after El Corte Ingles pledged to employ more staff and to ensure workers’ rights to a family life and to have better working conditions.
