Diego Maradona in two alleged scuffles in Madrid

IN Madrid to watch his former team Napoli playing Real Madrid in the last 16 of the Champions League, Diego Maradona was involved in two incidents that caught the attention of the world’s press.

Firstly, journalist Ángel García, claimed that the Argentinian had attacked him while he tried to interview him although Maradona denies this, explaining that he simply told the journalist to stop bothering him.

Then, the management of the Eurostar Suites Mirasierra hotel at which Maradona and his 26-year-old girl friend Rocio Oliva were staying called the National Police as they believed that there might have been a fight between the sometimes erratic celebrity and his partner.

After interviewing both of them, officers left the hotel without bringing any charges although the police will need to follow procedures and open a file on the matter.

The pair later said that no blows had been exchanged and that it had been a ‘strong argument’ although a video has appeared on at least one website allegedly showing the Argentinean punching his girlfriend.

Napoli lost the match 3-1 to Real Madrid and prior to the altercation, Maradona had issued a tweet showing himself and partner Rocio holding a bar of chocolate with the message “Nada como ir juntos a la par” (There’s nothing like being together).
