REPAIR work needed to Torrevieja’s Palacio de los Deportes is expected to cost more than €2 million.
The sports centre needs the structure of the building reinforced in several places, waterproofing to the sides of the indoor pools and improvements to the changing rooms.
This job list, amongst other works needed, is expected to cost more than €2 million, but the council has stressed that these repairs are not compromising the safety of users or the day-to-day activities at the sports centre.
The building of the Palacio de los Deportes (formerly known as Infanta Cristina) was built in the late 90s and opened in September 2000, after an investment of more than €9 million.
The town hall claims leaks and deficiencies were detected in an inspection carried out in 2012 under the mandate of the PP. In the last year of their term they assigned €200,000 to make repairs to the pool but kept the facility open without addressing the problems and carrying out the work. However, the PP party has denied any record of the problems.
