14 metre RHIB seized
AFTER a 14 metre Rigid Hull Inflatable Boat (RHIB) ran out of fuel in Gibraltar waters off Rosia Bay, its three man crew, suspected of being involved in the smuggling of drugs was rescued by a second RHIB which powered through the waters at such a speed that the Royal Gibraltar Police Marine Section was unable to catch them.
They did however confiscate this, the largest and fastest RHIB ever seized in Gibraltar waters and then in the following days arrested a five man Spanish crew in Gibraltar waters who were in an eight metre RHIB.
The number of RHIBs – which are often associated with drug smuggling – sighted in Gibraltar waters continues to increase as does the success rate in detecting and stopping them.

What happens to these once they are seized? Are they auctioned off?
