Juan Herrera Alcausa school in Velez-Malaga
SCHOOLS in La Herradura and Velez-Malaga have been celebrating the ‘School Day of Non-Violence and Peace.’
The day, which is celebrated throughout the world, takes place on January 30 each year, on the anniversary of the death of Indian lawyer, politician and human rights campaigner Mahatma Gandhi.
Velez-Malaga students celebrated the day with a cavalcade of three floats that toured the city centre’s main streets. Around 600 students took part in the route, which started near the Nuestra Señora de los Remedios school and ended at Plaza de Las Carmelitas.
The project’s coordinator, Juan Francisco Martinez, added, “this is the third edition we have done, and every year we have more teachers, parents, and students involved in this beautiful project.”
Meanwhile, students from the Las Gaviotas in La Herradura school created an exhibition about children’s rights, which has been displayed at the town’s civic centre. The most outstanding students were presented with diplomas and gifts for their work.
Children also took part in emotional education workshops and traditional games. It is thought that in total almost 300 children in La Herradura participated in exhibitions and events.
