LATEST PHASE: Of the coastal pathway.

TWO new projects linking the towns of Fuengirola and Benalmadena for walkers and cyclists are to go ahead at a cost of nearly €400,000.

They are the latest phases of the Senda Litoral de Malaga, the pathway along the coast of the province from Manilva to Nerja which should be completed in 2019.

A footbridge over the El Jardin stream in Fuengirola will cost more than €90,000.

But the lion’s share of the budget, to be paid by the Diputación, is around €300,000 for a 700-metre walkway.

This will be situated at the beach at Carvajal.

When the schemes are complete walkers and cyclists will be able to enjoy 16 kilometres of walkway between the two neighbouring towns.

Both the mayor of Benalmadena, Víctor Navas, and the mayor of Fuengirola, Ana Mula, highlighted the importance of the Coastal Trail to the tourism industry.

Eventually it will be possible to walk or cycle the entire 160 km length of the SendaLitoral.
