‘We’re getting closer and closer’ Leo the Lion’s mum tells Euro Weekly News

FUNDRAISING for the bravest lion of them all, little Leo Bermejo, is getting into top gear with one donor putting €5,000 into the gofundme page for the fighting four-year-old.

Leo is off to England in just five days with mum Karen and dad Jose, for the brain surgery that will ready him for his trip to America.

At a specialist unit in the midwestern state of Oklahoma the youngster will then receive the proton therapy he badly needs.

This will give him the best chance, once and for all, of conquering the tumours that grow at such speed in his brain.

Speaking to EWN, Leo’s mum Karen said: “The cancer he has is very rare and seems to affect children under the age of four and boys in particular. Leo’s speech is gone, but he’s a fighter!”

With news of more and more people getting involved to give Leo the chance he needs, Karen told us: “I woke up at four in the morning and looked at the fundraising page.

“I just feel like we’re getting closer and closer. Donations are coming in every minute.

Even a few euros bumps it up and gives Leo the best chance.”

The latest celebrity to get on board Leo’s campaign is mixed martial artist and UFC middleweight world champion Michael Bisping.

The 37-year-old, nicknamed the Count, posted on Instagram: “Please help save this young man’s life. He has done everything he can, now we have to help him.”
