CANNES Film Festival organisers have announced acclaimed Spanish movie director Pedro Almodovar will lead the jury this year.
He is the first Spaniard to preside over the world’s top film event in its 70-year history.
Almodovar announced, “I am grateful, honoured and a bit overwhelmed.”
The film director, screenwriter, producer and former actor has won two Academy Awards, four British Academy Film Awards, six European Film Awards, two Golden Globe Awards and nine Goya Awards.
Almodovar is credited with helping launch the Hollywood careers of the actors Antonio Banderas, Penelope Cruz and Javier Bardem.
