The Phoenix Club’s future adventures

MIJAS PUEBLO: Has lots to see and do.

IT’S a busy time ahead for The Phoenix Club with lots of trips and activities to look forward to.

There will be a trip to the new shopping centre in Granada, which has several floors of shops and restaurants and a great view of the snow capped Sierra Nevada, on Friday February 10. The cost for the trip is €14.50 per person and the coach will leave Algarrobo Lidl at 9am and also pick up in Torre del Mar.

On Saturday February 18 they are off to Mijas Pueblo, a historical and artistic complex which climbs up the Sierra de Mijas. The old town is a typical Muslim village, the parts of the old walls are still standing offering great panoramic views of the Costa del Sol from their beautiful gardens.

There’s lots to see and do in Mijas. Take a stroll along the old cobbled streets, stop for a tapas or two, have a look at the museums and just enjoy the hustle and bustle.

There is an opportunity to visit the Mayan Monkey Chocolate Workshop and try your hand at making chocolate but this would be an extra cost.

The cost is €14 per person with coach pick ups at Algarrobo Lidl at 9am and then Torre del Mar bus station at 9.15am and will leave Mijas at 4.30pm.

It’s off to the zoo on Friday March 18 with a visit to the zoo at Castellar de la Frontera. Started as a private rescue sanctuary in 1998, Zoo de Castellar is not your typical zoo as either customs or the police has rescued all of the animals.

In 2002 the rescue sanctuary opened to the public so that it could raise funds and also educate visitors as to animals’ plight and it has more than 500 animals from a range of 120 different species.

The cost is €30 per person and includes a €1 gratuity for the driver. Lunch is not included. The bus departs Algarrobo Lidl at 8.30am with a stop for breakfast.

Early booking is recommended if you like a particular place on the bus as seat numbers are allocated on a first come, first served basis.

There is also a trip to see the theatre show Stars of the West End on Friday March 24 at the beautiful Las Lagunas Theatre in Mijas Costa.

The audience at the theatre production will hear songs from The Phantom of the Opera, Les Misérables, Jersey Boys, Oliver, Mamma Mia, Miss Saigon and many more during a two-hour show (two acts with a 20-minute interval).

Mike Sterling, Lisa-Anne Wood and Michael Conway, all principle performers who have all starred in leading roles in the top West End musicals, will feature in the performance.

The coach will depart from Algarrobo Lidl at 6pm and the cost, including concert ticket, coach fare and driver’s gratuity, is €32 per person. Payment is required at the time of booking.

The Phoenix Club is a registered association raising funds for three local charities and Help4Heroes in the UK.  It meets every Tuesday at the bar restaurant La Vega in Torre del Mar between 12 and 2pm and you can book or pay from 12.15pm onwards.

Do pop in and meet the group.  You can find La Vega behind the Repsol Garage on the way out of Torre towards Benajarafe.
