HGV robbery gang arrests in Spain clears up 200 crimes

POLICE have cleared up nearly 200 robberies after arresting 38 members of a gang who looted and stole entire consignments of high value goods from HGVs.

In a two-year operation police were able to link thefts all over Spain from trucks whose drivers were resting or parked up in industrial estates.

When the target trucks were identified they were raided by a four to seven-strong team who then distributed the merchandise.

In the homes of gang members police found guns, jewellery and drugs.

In a statement police said the gang’s members had been particularly active in Madrid, Toledo, Guadalajara and Zaragoza.

Many of those arrested were found to be in receipt of social security and other benefit payments by claiming to be unemployed or unable to work.
