Girl, 8, dies waiting four hours for hospital transfer in Blanes

AN eight-year-old girl died in Blanes while waiting almost four hours for an ambulance to transfer her to another hospital.

The youngster was waiting for one of only two specialist paediatric ambulances in Catalonia which was coming from Barcelona at the time.

The Comarcal de la Selva Hospital did not have the facilities to deal with her abdominal infection.

Doctors on Sunday then opted to transfer her to the Trueta Girona Hospital some 45 minutes away.

An investigation has been launched into the treatment of the young girl.
