Stab and bullet proof vests issued for Torrox police

OFFICIAL GIFT: Oscar Medina, Paola Moreno and two of the lucky recipients.

POLICE in Torrox are being given bullet and stab proof vests in the first half of this year in a move to keep both police and residents safer.

Mayor of Torrox, Oscar Medina and head of security at the town hall, Paola Moreno, have said that this demonstrates “the progress of the municipality on security,” and added “the goal is to reach 20 during the first half of 2017, so that all our officers in the street can be protected and extend this protection to those in Torrox.”

The vests themselves, the first batch of which was ordered in December last year, are “of the latest generation, so they are also anti-knife and anti-punch, thus adhering to the most demanding regulations at European level,” and “can be used both inside and outside.”

The mayor added that “with this measure, we intend to provide each officer with a security element that can save their lives, because we understand that it is a priority that, at the same time, will have an impact on the security of the municipality.”
