Don’t fall for Microsoft scam

THE Microsoft technician scam is back, the Guardia Civil has warned on its official Twitter account.

The police force explained that people with British accents claiming to be from the company telephone victims and inform them of a serious security problem, virus or malware on their PC. They then either demand money to install a cleaning programme on the computer, urge victims to provide them with remote access to their PC to solve the problem or direct them to a fake website which gathers personal information. Whichever way, the Guardia Civil tweeted, if you fall for it you can kiss your money goodbye.

Experts recommend using common sense and bearing in mind that Microsoft only provides technical support over its official websites.  If in doubt, do nothing until you have confirmed you are talking to a real representative of Microsoft, the police force advised in tweets marked with the hashtags #NoPiques (don’t fall for it) and #Timo (scam).
