Costa del Sol Crusaders win thriller against Malaga CC

COSTA DEL SOL CRUSADERS clinched victory from the jaws of defeat with a wicket from man of the match Jesper Hensen.

Costa del Sol won the toss and batted first, and soon were in trouble at 25-4, as the bowlers from Malaga CC were steaming in with sheer pace with the new ball. The pitch assisted the faster bowlers, but the fifth wicket partnership between Egan Dantis and Jasper Hensen of 141 began to turn the tide. Jesper, who scored an unbeaten 101, and Egan with 38 helped the team to score 193-7 off 30 overs. Waqas Ali was pick of the bowlers with 2 wickets.

In reply, Malaga CC slumped to 68-7 with some excellent bowling from Nick Harvey, Jody, James Riley and Amjad, all with 2 wickets apiece. However, some crisp lower order hitting by Waqas Ali (41)and Awais Cheema (56) with a partnership of 117 almost took Malaga to the brink of a sensational victory.

Games of cricket very often hinge on critical moments of skill, though, and David Pollock took an amazing catch to help dismiss Waqas, before Jesper took the last 2 wickets leaving Malaga short of 1 run with one over to spare as they were all out for 192. The Crusaders’ next match will be against Fuengirola CC, while league matches begin on January 28 2017.
