POLICE are baffled by the mysterious case of a Brazilian woman whose body washed ashore on a Costa Blanca beach. She and her Spanish boyfriend were reported missing from Ibiza more than a month ago and detectives have no idea where he is.
The body of Katia F S, 34, was found on a beach in Cullera and quickly linked to a missing persons investigation on the Balearic Island. She and Marcos Perez de la Torre, 36, were supposed to visit his family in Madrid but had been incommunicado since November 18.
Marcos’ family begged Ibiza police for help and a few weeks later the couple’s car was found abandoned and falling apart near an idyllic Ibiza beach. No sign of the two remained and there was no paper trail suggesting either had left the island.
Police are now trying to work out whether it is possible that Katia’s body could have drifted across the sea from Ibiza to the Costa Blanca.
A post-mortem confirmed she died of drowning but investigators are sceptical that the tide would take her body almost 200km in little over a month.
Meanwhile Marcos’ family are waiting for news of their son. The couple had been dating for around four months and Katia was due to meet her boyfriend’s parents for the first time over Christmas.
He had been working as a carpenter on the island for three years and was said to be very happy. But a comprehensive check of friends, acquaintances, bank accounts, phone and internet activity has left no clues.
His family are holding onto the hope that he will still be found alive. Police request that anyone who thinks they may have information contact them on 091.
