Suspected revenge killer found hanging in Galician woods

A BODY found hanging from a tree in Galicia is believed to be that of a Romanian fugitive wanted for the murder of his ex-girlfriend earlier this month.

Witnesses reported that the suspected murderer’s car was parked close to where the body was found by a wood cutter and his identity papers were in one of the man’s pockets. The amount of fallen leaves on the car led locals to suggest the body could have been there for a few days.

Adrian Eugen Burlacu was wanted for allegedly stabbing his former partner, waitress Elena Marcu, 35 times at her home in Santiago when she asked him to leave after having allowed him to stay with her temporarily.

Although the victim was rushed to hospital and underwent emergency surgery, she died of her wounds two days later.

Burlacu had a previous police record and in fact had done time in jail in 2013 for kidnapping two people at the town hall in Lalin and demanded they told him where his ex-girlfriend lived. He had reportedly said he would seek revenge after Marcu testified against him in court.
