Pristine slopes and a long season

SIERRA NEVADA: Skiers benefit from a longer season.

IN radical contrast to last season, this year Sierra Nevada has leaped into full throttle with exceptionally snowy conditions and as of December 1, over 70kms of pristine skiable slopes were already open including the Laguna de la Yeguas and Montebajo areas – all within the first week of opening! On the run-up to Christmas, there was almost 100kms of slopes open!

With such spectacular conditions already, why not check your calendars and get in touch with Sierra Essence and the British Ski Center to arrange a visit! As usual Sierra Nevada is planning a typically long season, running up to the beginning of May 2017.

Friends and family travelling in from the UK will find a good choice of flights into Malaga airport, and do also remember that Granada airport is barely 40 minutes’ drive from the resort, with direct flights from London City airport. From February 4, 2017 easyJet will be offering three direct flights per week from London Gatwick.

If you are undecided when to travel and are flexible with your dates, then it is recommended to visit during the quieter periods such as the weeks leading up to Christmas, from mid-January to early February or from the second week of March onwards.

This season’s big event is the 2017 World Freestyle and Snowboarding Championships which run from the March 7-19, 2017. This will be a superb opportunity to witness the incredible skills, acrobatics and general madness of the world’s top freestylers including Britain’s own Billy Morgan.

Accommodation rates during this period are surprisingly reasonable, and it is not  anticipated that the resort will be too busy, so it’s definitely worth a visit then.

Remember that Sierra Nevada’s long season is due principally to statistically heavy late snowfalls, a typically dry regional climate that means much less atmospheric moisture to affect the snow, high altitude, long sunny days, quality snow and cheaper deals.
