IN an operation undertaken in collaboration with the Italian Police and acting on a European warrant, officers of the National Police have arrested a 52-year-old Italian said to be a member of the mafia.
The man who is believed to be part of the Calabrian mafia known as the Ndrangheta from the southern-most tip of Italy had escaped an operation in Italy where 24 people were arrested together with the confiscation of €62 million and various works of art including three by Spanish artists.
The man was stopped following a tip off at the Calafel station in Tarragona where he was found to be in possession of a false identity card and so he has been charged in Spain with having fake papers.
