Guardia Civil arrest 31 people involved in sale of illegal firearms

WORKING closely with a number of branches of the Guardia Civil in different parts of Spain as well as using information supplied by Europol, the Guardia Civil have arrested 30 people and seized 124 illegally held firearms as well as 14,100 rounds of ammunition.

The operation commenced in April of this year when officers found 23 pistols and 450 cartridges in the possession of an individual in the province of Albacete who it was concluded was obtaining weapons from various sources in Eastern Europe.

Thanks to documents found in his possession, officers found details of other criminals involved in the same practice which led to the recent arrests and seizures around the country including Andalucia and Catalonia.

Not only were those involved importing guns, they were also involved in converting air pistols to fire .22 bullets and making their own cartridges.

The haul which was collected from 31 raided properties included 117 pistols and revolvers, 14,100 cartridges, six kilograms of gunpowder, gun parts and accessories, a complete marihuana plantation, computers and documents.
