Moving against violence in Huercal-Overa

HUERCAL-OVERA is honouring November 25, International Day Against Violence Against Women, with a week of activities for locals of all ages.

Events kicked off on Monday at local secondary schools, where three days of activities were held aimed to raise awareness and educate youngsters in an aim to eliminating violence in the future generations.

Equality Councillor Belen Martinez said: “We want to teach our youths of the importance of eliminating gender violence and sexist attitudes in relationships. Our children and youngsters are vital to halt this type of violence, education is fundamental and we at the council want to ensure they are involved in the activities.”

Further activities included a Self-Confidence workshop today, Thursday 24, at the Women’s Centre and a Video Conference at 5.30pm, also at the centre, arranged by the local fibromialigia association.

On Friday 25, Huercal-Overa provided a self-defence class at the Women’s Centre at 11am, a Zumba Kids session on the Plaza de Abastos at 5pm and a spinning master class at the same place at 7.30pm.

For Saturday 26 a Walk Against Gender Violence set off from the Via Verde at 10am and included breakfast and planting of the anti-violence tree.

Finally, on Tuesday 29 there will be an official event at 1pm on Plaza de la Constitucion during which a manifesto against violence will be read out.
