Strictly dancer attacked and hurt in Blackpool

SPANISH professional dancer Gorka Marquez, nicknamed by fans of Strictly Come Dancing Gorka the Corker, was assaulted in Blackpool on the evening of Saturday November 19 as he and fellow dancers Aljaz Skorjanec and Neil Jones were heading for a night out.

According to reports, the dancer who is in his first year in the BBC’s most successful programme was attacked by a number of young men in what a BBC statement claimed to be “an unprovoked incident.”

Although he and partner from Eastenders Tameka Empson were eliminated in the second round of the competition, he still appears in ensemble performances each week and also deputed for Brendan Cole, partnering Anastacia, when Brendan was ill.

It appears that Gorka lost two teeth during the assault and after dental treatment will be returning to rehearsals. Hopefully the next group performance will not be to ‘All I want for Christmas is my two front teeth.’
