COOL AS A CUCMBER: The accused was carrying 7 kilos of the illicit seafood.
GUARDIA CIVIL Officers in the Malaga Airport seized seven kilos of sea cucumbers from a Chinese citizen who was allegedly trying to smuggle them abroad.
The man was allegedly caught going through airport security with plastic bags full of the sea cucumbers in his hand luggage. After being interrogated by the police, he apparently admitted that he wanted to take them back for his own personal consumption.
These bizarre-looking creatures are considered to be a delicacy in many Asian countries, where they are also known for their aphrodisiac qualities and are used in various medicinal treatments. However, fishing for sea cucumbers is prohibited in Andalucia, and sneaking them across borders is equally illegal. The man was thus arrested by the police and handed over to the appropriate authorities.
