Robbed at gunpoint

CAUGHT IN THE ACT: The perpetrator tried to conceal his weapon in a bush.

GUARDIA Civil investigators have arrested a man who held a petrol station worker at gunpoint whilst he stole money from the till.

The incident, which occurred at the Petronor El Amerador garage in El Campello on the N332, left the employee in a state of shock although physically unharmed.

The Spanish local, aged 32, walked into the petrol station with his face covered by a headscarf and pointed a gun at the staff member whilst demanding money from the till,  he escaped with 240 euros.

Police officers in the area saw the man, known to them for other similar crimes, behaving suspiciously as he left the petrol station, throwing something into the nearby bushes.  At this point they were not aware of the robbery that had just occurred. They challenged him and noticed that he was attempting to hide something in his clothes, he was also agitated.

In his pockets they found several crumpled euro notes and a headscarf.  They then proceeded to search the bushes where they found a black 4.5 mm calibre airgun.

The officers visited then petrol station where they found the employee anxious but able to inform them that a man with a headscarf had just robbed them at gunpoint.

The El Campello resident was immediately arrested and sent to prison due to his previous criminal record.
