A 54-year-old Galician man, known only by the initials FJTA, has complained to the Guardia Civil about the unauthorised use of his image on cigarette packets to encourage people to stop smoking.
He believes that the photo was taken without his permission while he was under anaesthetic during an operation he had in April last year. Ironically, FJTA isn’t a smoker and was in hospital on that occasion for a procedure on his back.
An investigation has been launched by health authorities to find out firstly if the image is indeed of the man in question and secondly, how his image was released for publication without permission.
