A homeless part time transvestite who was about to be evicted from a shop owned by the Palma council where he was squatting was arrested by National Police officers in connection with nine fires and a violent theft.
The fires which started with parked cars and motor bikes then extended to take in buildings in what was a frenzy of pyromania which took place over a period of one week and culminated in a fire which affected several offices in the Los Geranios Commercial Centre.
Due to the ongoing nature of these crimes, police gave particular priority to finding the culprit and they were soon advised by witnesses that after each fire, a man dressed in women’s clothing appeared and started asking questions. Then, certain CTV cameras in the area showed him in the vicinity of each fire, so the police raided his squat and found a number of incriminating items including items stolen from a discotheque.
The man who is reportedly 59-years-old was immediately arrested and taken into custody.
