Arrests made in two separate rape attacks

GUARDIA CIVIL officers have arrested two men, both are charged with raping women in a car on separate occasions.

The first attack occurred in Altea.  A young 22-year-old woman was in a local bar with a friend where she met another group which included a 25-year-old Spanish man whom she spent some time chatting with.

Later she left with the young man in his car, they travelled a short distance before he stopped the vehicle in an unlit area and became very aggressive towards her and then proceeded to rape her.

Following the attack he returned to the bar whilst the girl’s friend searched for the victim. She found her friend distressed and described her as in a state of emotional shock.

Fortunately the officers were able to match the victim and witness descriptions to the Spanish man, who was visiting from Galicia for the local fiesta.

He was taken before the court where, because evidence was found on his mobile relating to threats to the victim and her friend regarding the incident, he was held on remand with an application for bail being refused.

The second attack occurred in Calpe.

The victim, a 20-year-old girl from the town, had asked a friend of her ex-boyfriend if he could give her a lift to the beach area.

The accused, a Columbian man aged 34, attacked the girl once they were inside his car.

Following this attack officers began searching for the man and because he was known to the victim he was arrested within the hour and taken to the police station.

The man was released on bail, having been charged with rape.  A restraining order was put in place to ensure that he does not contact the victim until the court case is heard.
