Tragedy in surgery

ROUTINE PROCEDURES: Resulted in complications.

AN investigation has been launched into the death of a woman after she underwent surgery at a private cosmetic clinic in Marbella.

The 46-year-old’s family expected her to spend no more than 24 hours at the Humanline Banus hospital recovering from a routine facelift and liposuction treatment. She went in on Friday for eyelid reduction, and liposuction on her arms and was told she would likely go home the same day or the following morning.

Unfortunately she suffered complications during the surgery, with preliminary reports suggesting that she was deprived of oxygen and went into cardiac arrest.

Clinic staff called an ambulance and she was rushed to the Costa del Sol hospital and placed into a coma. Despite the best efforts of medical teams she died on Sunday. Her body was taken to Malaga for a post mortem and her family are waiting to find out exactly what caused her death.
