SEDELLA: The British suspect was arrested near his home in the sleepy village.

A 56-YEAR-OLD Englishman has been detained in Sedella, Malaga, under a European Detention and Delivery Order issued by the Court of St. Albans in the UK.

He has been wanted under suspicion of drug trafficking since 2014, when British police intercepted 3.7 tonnes of cannabis resin that he was attempting to smuggle from the Costa Tropical to Essex.

The unnamed smuggler was allegedly in charge of organising transport of the contraband and was working alongside other individuals within an organised gang.

The hashish was thus concealed in lorry carrying furniture from Spain to the UK, which was seized by British police before reaching its destination

An arrest warrant was issued on November 19 2015, and the man was eventually collared last week close to his home in the rural Axarquia village.

He is charged with importation of Class B controlled drugs, a crime which carries a maximum prison sentence of 14 years, and has been placed at the disposal of the National Court in Madrid.
