Time to clean up the streets

PROTECTING WOMEN: The council are being asked to ‘be brave’ and fine pimps and users.

IT’S time to meet the problem of prostitution in Fuengirola head on and the council should draw up a by-law to allow users of sexual services on the public street to be fined, the PSOE socialist party has said.

Secretary for Social Movements at the local branch of the political party Trinidad Diaz said: “For years the PP council has been turning a blind eye but it’s time to be brave and solve the problem. The idea would be to fine users and pimps between €700 and €1,500 and put the money towards helping women who wish to get away from prostitution find employment. These women are the victims and we need to protect and assist them.”

Diaz stressed that the town needs to work to eradicate the image of women as a mere sexual object from its streets and create regulations to avoid discrimination and degrading treatment.
