MARBELLA: Symbolises the coast’s economic strength.
THE Costa del Sol and Axarquia have been congratulated for their ‘good behaviour’ economically speaking during the height of the financial crisis. A new study from the Madeca Foundation found that both regions were clearly powering the economy of Malaga Province during those fraught years.
The Costa del Sol was lauded for its economic strength and depth, embracing a wider variety of activity than nearly any other area across Spain, whether within the luxury market of Marbella or from the beaches of Benalmadena.
Axarquia was described as the most representative part of the province, a microcosm of greater Malaga with strong financial and insurance services, hospitality and tourism, art and sport. Malaga itself was said to be the dominant province across Andalucia, especially in real estate and construction.
The foundation believes that this intrinsic strength and economic diversity has helped the Costa del Sol and Malaga power past the crisis years far quicker than many other Spanish regions, particularly in the interior.
