UP, UP, AND AWAY: The child was airlifted to Almeria.

THE Maritime Rescue’s helicopter ‘Helimer 219’ was involved in a dramatic night rescue just after 2am on Wednesday, October 19, as they swooped into action to save a 20-month-old baby girl.

The tiny infant had suffered a severe asthma attack while travelling on the passenger ship ‘Cruise Esmerelda’ with her parents.

The vessel operates the Barcelona-Tangier route and was around 16 nautical miles off Cabo de Gata in Almeria when the incident occurred.

Having received an emergency call, the helicopter’s crew performed a daring manoeuvre in order to pick up the child and her parents and transfer them to Almeria Airport, where an ambulance was waiting to whisk them to Torrecardenas Hospital.

The baby’s grateful mother and father have since contacted Maritime Rescue to express their gratitude and confirm that she is safe and progressing well.
