New community way of living

A GROUP of like-minded British expats based in Almuñecar have been thinking about their future when they can no longer manage to live in their own houses or flats, or no longer wish to.

The reasons may include limited mobility, distance from activities or social isolation, and some of their friends, whether Spanish, Northern European or other nationalities have expressed similar concerns. Many of them have seen their parents or friends in difficulties when decisions have had to be taken and they could no longer choose where they live.

For these reasons the group wishes to explore the possibility of designing a self-run cooperative community within which they could support each other. They believe that renting property may be a better option than buying, so that services could be bought in as needed and costs shared, and that in this way they could maximise their later years and enjoy life to the full.

So, the friends are looking for an international group of likeminded people to help make this happen. Their first meeting is on Thursday October 20 at 6pm, downstairs in the Asa de Cultura Almuñecar, with the second on November 7 at the same time, same place.
