Water pipe explodes at Benalmadena hotel

SC

A WATER pipe has exploded in the Hotel Los Patos, Benalmadena, with the resultant plume of water both violent and spectacular.

The leak has caused extensive damage and forcing staff to evacuate certain parts of the premises, although no-one has been injured.

The blast of high-pressure water apparently reached the fifth floor, and the town hall has said that the fault will result in cuts throughout town this afternoon (October 4), although Benalmadena Pueblo should not be affected.

A number of police and firefighting patrols were quickly on the scene, and are currently attempting to drain the dining area and other rooms that have been flooded, although the pipe continues to spurt water and will likely do so until this evening, according to municipal supplier Emabesa.

A great deal of the water has been discharged into the sea via a local stream, and the repairs are likely to take several days.

The pipeline in question connects Benalmadena to Malaga City, and is said to be more than thirty years old.
