Top of the bill

MIJAS’ Local Police force held their annual feast of their patron in honour of the archangels San Gabriel, San Rafael and San Miguel on Thursday, September 29.

Special public recognition and the Cross of Merit were awarded to nine officers, while 21 others received public congratulations for their outstanding efforts over the last 12 months.

The ceremony was held in the training and employment building in Las Lagunas, and was attended by a raft of local officials including town mayor, Juan Carlos Maldonado.

“I have only words of gratitude for these public servants who are an example to everyone,” enthused the custodian. “Their team is essential to the council, since the security they provide not only offers protection to residents and visitors, but helps us to project a great image to attract tourists and create wealth.”

In cooperation with the Guardia Civil, National Police, and other security forces, the local police oversaw a 15 per cent fall in crime over the last year.
