NATIONAL POLICE investigators on the Costa Blanca have arrested an unnamed British man wanted by authorities in Newcastle-upon-Tyne over a case of sexual abuse against two minors.
The sex crimes were first reported over twenty years ago, after the suspect allegedly abused a child repeatedly between October 1994 and spring 1995.
He is said to have first befriended the 16-year-old boy’s father, before arranging clandestine meetings with the child at his home and subjecting him to a series of assaults that became increasingly serious.
Police say that the victim later convinced a friend to accompany him in exchange for tobacco and alcohol, before he was also abused.
The alleged offender was detained in Alicante under a European Arrest Warrant, and a closed court hearing in Madrid will now determine whether he will be extradited to the UK.
Newcastle courts have charged him with eight counts of abuse against a minor, meaning he could face ten years behind bars if found guilty.
