Jalon Valley Help upgraded

DROP-IN CENTRE: The new building unveiled and officially opened.

OVER 150 invited guests including  the British Vice Consul in Alicante, Sara Munsterhjelm, Alcalali Mayor, Maria Isabel Molina Vicens, the local priest, representatives from local charities and associations, and volunteer residents of all nationalities of the Jalon Valley Help, gathered to officially open the charity’s new drop-in centre at Casa de Animo in Alcalali.

Elaine Horton, President of Jalon Valley Help,  opened proceedings by thanking everyone  for coming along and joining in.

She said, “It’s a big day for all of us at Jalon Valley Help, and it’s great to be able to share the occasion with so many friends, neighbours, and supporters. Animo is open for business, and everyone whatever their age or nationality is very, very welcome.”

Elaine explained how the old town house had outgrown its original purpose, and in 2015 the charity sought the assistance of the town hall in Alcalali, who, after much consideration, very generously offered the rent free accommodation.

She said the charity had been fortunate to have both financial and practical support from local businesses.  These include Garcia Villas, and La Caixa Bank, who provided financial assistance, and S&S Building Services who had assisted throughout by providing equipment, and ensuring that  works such as the replastering was properly completed.

“We are very grateful for their support and encouragement, progress would have been considerably slower without it, and their incredible generosity.”

“Today begins a new chapter in the history of Animo, all of it impossible without the goodwill of the town hall here in Alcalali, and the generosity of others, all of us should be proud at what has been achieved here. Together we have made a difference and there will be many that will be very grateful for it. Thank you everyone. “

After speeches from the mayor and the Vice Consul, who both praised the hard work and community spirit of the charity, the priest gave a blessing and then the ribbon across the door was cut and everyone entered to view the refurbished premises. Exclamations of delight were heard from all corners.

The guests were then treated to a buffet prepared by the charity’s catering team, and entertainment by the Vall de Pop U3A Casual Choir.

It was an incredible afternoon which will be remembered by everyone, and a tribute to all those who worked so hard to prepare the building to such an amazing standard.
