Police investigating the discovery by divers of an almost complete human skeleton in the waters off the base of the Peñon de Ifach have arrested two people.
The remains were found last month along with a child’s doll and also twigs with the names of people attached to them.
Over the next few days at least two other similar macabre discoveries were made by divers in nearby waters.
The Guardia Civil has revealed none of the bones bore the signs of physical violence and that some had been interred in the ground for as long as 20 years before being dug up and then taken out to sea.
It is believed that the two people taken into custody, a man and a woman, are Spanish citizens.
They were arrested in Badajoz, Extremadura, but it is not known if they were on the list of people’s names found inside the watery bundle.
What has been revealed is that the woman has been receiving psychiatric treatment and is said by some sources to have had a relationship with one of the individuals named in the documents.
Investigators now suspect that some of the remains contained in the bundles had been used by at least one occult group.
The bones themselves are thought to have been taken from cemeteries that had been desecrated.
