BLUE IS THE COLOUR: The village has been smurfed by a Smurf that smurfs smurf.

MALAGA Council has announced that it is designing an official tourism plan for the ‘Smurf village’ of Juzcar, a nickname received after the hamlet was painted bright blue in 2011 to celebrate the premier of the movie featuring the famous characters.

Sony Pictures have once again chosen Juzcar for the premier of the third Smurf’s film, and have pledged an impressive €300,000 in order to help boost the local economy and solidify its reputation as a tourist location.

Head of the provincial council, Elias Bendodo was accompanied by mayor of Juzcar, Francisco Lozano and Sony representative, Monica Perez, as he said: “Our goal is to consolidate the brand of Juzcar as THE Smurf village and also as a reference for tourists.”

New proposals include installation of a zip line and an ‘urban adventure’ park, as well as creation of an app called ‘Smurf Gymkhana,’ with which users can unearth hidden Smurfs in the village and compete for Smurf-based prizes.
