Game, set and match

MORE than 40 people took part in the sixth Open City of Motril beach doubles tennis tournament. The men’s competition was won by Javier Aznar and David Calero, with Belen Calero and Arantxa Pareja securing victory in the women’s category. 

The tournament is held as part of the Andalucian Beach Tennis circuit, whose champions will go on to contest the national championships, to be held in Mallorca. 

“It is a sport full of showmanship that has become established in Motril and is gaining more and more followers,” said councillor Gloria Chica. She went on to praise improvements to the town’s sports facilities, saying they allow spectators “to enjoy simultaneous matches, which has generated a spectacular atmosphere at each one.”
