DESIRABLE DRIVE: Ford’s high-performance Mustang proved popular.
RECENT sales stats allow us to peer into the souls of the great British motoring public to see which cars and colours are the most popular this year.
On the high-performance front, the Ford Mustang was by far the most desired, clocking up more than 2,000 sales in the first six months of the year. Also on the list are the Jaguar F-Type, BMW 6 Series, Porsche 911, and Porsche Cayman.
With many people upgrading as often as every 18 months it’s little wonder the second-hand market is booming. The ‘iphonification’ of the industry is seeing more and more people pay monthly contracts rather than pay directly for ownership.
The best selling second-hand car of the year was, as always, the Ford Fiesta, which changed hands almost 60,000 times from January to June. Well behind in second was the Ford Focus sold on 40,000 occasions, while the Vauxhall Corsa, Astra and Volkswagen Golf made up the top five.
Britain’s favourite used car colour is silver, followed by black, blue, grey and red.
