TRIO NABBED: The three crooks were arrested at Fuengirola marina.

NATIONAL POLICE have arrested a trio of malfeasants in Fuengirola for their alleged involvement in a drug trafficking plot.

Two Belgians, aged 48 and 50-years-old, respectively, were detained as their boat docked in the municipal marina, having arrived from Morocco with 500 kilos of hashish resin aboard.

The third suspect, a man of Moroccan nationality who is considered to be the ringleader of the plot and had been under investigation since 2015, was picked up in Fuengirola the following day.

The latter had tried to import large quantities of the soporific substance on two previous occasions, but his attempts had failed, the most recent of which involved the arrest of a boat’s captain before it left northern Africa.

This time, a yacht flying the Union Jack arrived in Spain, where police officers were able to unearth the huge stash hidden between the engine and cabin, with granulated chlorine apparently used to disguise the smell.

The 11-metre vessel was immediately seized, alongside a sports car and documentation relating to the case.
